The Diablo franchise is in a strange state right now. Diablo Immortal has been a huge commercial achievement for Blizzard However, the game has hurt Diablo's image due to its questionable, arguably fraudulent way of monetizing. Diablo 4 has looked impressive in gameplay reveal trailers and other such trailers, even though many fans have expressed concern about the possibility of it resembling those of the Diablo Immortal game's microtransactions. Blizzard has tried to assure that players aren't being cheated by Diablo 4's microtransaction however we don't be able to determine how this works until the game comes out.
Diablo 4 currently lacks a solid release date, though it's predicted to release sometime in the first half of 2023. It appears Diablo 4 fans who are excited to learn when exactly they can play the game need to tune in to The Game Awards in December.
Diablo 4's world will allow players to quit and pick up the story at will, but although this does "allow the possibility of non-linearity" The story will include "a beginning as well as a middle and an ending".
Ahead of an interview for IGN, Diablo 4 director Joe Shely and general manager Rod Fergusson opened up on the exciting new game for fans of the franchise as well providing a little insight into how the game's story mechanics differ from the Diablo games that have come before it.
"One of the concerns about making 'open' the form of a large neon and flashing it is that it creates the notion of Breath of Wildness and think, 'oh, it's organic and I'm able to go anywhere and do anything'" Fergusson said, as transcribing by NME.
"That's not our story. Our story allows for non-linearity however, there is some story to tell - we wanted to have an opening, middle and a conclusion.
"You do not have to explore the story for a while and that's one of the great things about the open world," Fergusson added. "There's a lot of side-quests, lots of activities that aren't necessarily on the golden way."
